Virginia Man Wins Vermont's Lifetime License Lottery
A 41-year old sportsman from Virginia is the lucky winner of a Vermont lifetime hunting and fishing license.
The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department held its annual License of a “Lifetime Lottery” at the December 14th meeting of the Fish and Wildlife Board in Montpelier. A lifetime hunting and fishing license is awarded to one person per year.

Many Lake Champlain Fishing Access Areas are Flooded
The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department has more than 25 fishing access areas on Lake Champlain and major rivers that feed the lake but, due to flooding, many of the sites are closed until the water recedes and damage can be assessed

Public Hearing-Waterfowl Hunting Zone Change, May 3
A public hearing on a proposal before the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board to establish a boundary between two Vermont waterfowl hunting zones in the northwest corner of the state will be held Tuesday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m., in the Swanton Village Complex (Auditorium) at 120 First Street, Swanton, VT.

Vermont's Newest State Record Fish
The fishing has always been good in Vermont, and the last decade has been especially good to anglers in search of state record fish. Of the 33 fish species eligible for state record consideration, 14 records have been set since 2001. That number is much higher than the number of state record fish caught in any of the other New England states or New York over the same time period

Fish and Wildlife Department Makes Antlerless Permit Proposal
Biologists from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department on Wednesday made initial recommendations to the state’s Fish and Wildlife Board for antlerless deer hunting opportunities during Vermont’s 2011 deer hunting seasons. The Board approved the proposal on the first of three votes necessary to make it law.

Vermont's Walleye Fishing Starts Soon

Remove Bird Feeders to Avoid Tempting Bears

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department says it is receiving reports of black bears emerging from their winter dens and looking for food. As a result, the department is urging people to take down their bird feeders to prevent the bears from getting into trouble.

Vermont’s Nongame Wildlife Fund Seeks Taxpayer Support

After years of absence, common loons, peregrine falcons and ospreys are now nesting again in Vermont, and their numbers are increasing. In fact, they have done so well, they are no longer listed as endangered or threatened in Vermont. Their successful comeback can be credited to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department which is now seeking individual taxpayer help in supporting work on other species.

Middlebury Deer Hearing to Be Live on VPT Website

Every spring the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department holds five public hearings at various locations across the state to discuss the status of the deer herd. Wildlife biologists will share information on 2010 hunting season results as well as data gathered at biological check stations. Winter severity data will be reviewed, and the prospects for the 2011 season will be discussed.

Vermont hunters have established new spring turkey harvest records in nine of the last thirteen years. In 2010, Hunters took 5,478 turkeys in both the youth weekend and regular May 1-31 seasons

Deer Hearings Begin March 24th

If you have an interest in Vermont's white-tailed deer you will want to attend one of the five annual public hearings being held in March by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department to discuss the deer herd. The meetings begin March 24th in Manchester.
